We had a few doubts about the new Blind Pilot album "We Are The Tide" (out in september) after a statement of lead singer Israel Nebeker (see previous post about Blind Pilot), but the sneak preview seems to clear all those doubts!

The Leisure Society - Into the (not so) Murky Water

British eight man (and women) band The Leisure Society today released the follow up of their splendid lo-fi debut album "The Sleeper" (2009). The new album called "Into the Murky Water" is really folk and pop in one brew, some traditional irish folk music, a slice of african rythm (read: Vampire Weekend) blended with chopped up chewing gum pop. The name of the second song on the album probably says it all: Dust on the Dancefloor. I'm not sure I'm standing on my chair cheering here, but it's a much better follow up than most of what I've heard this spring. (Did you just hear me saying Fleet Foxes?) Despite it's name it's a really cheerful album and will blend perfectly with your glass of tepid rose wine any evening soon.

The extremely talented Mr. Richard Swift

I can't exactly remember how I found out about Richard Swift. But I remember that it was august last year, the rain kept pouring down outside of my house on Gotland, and I remember that I was stuck instantly.

There was this vast variety of styles he used and the huge musical talent coming through in all the songs that made me think about Jeff Lynne or even Brian Wilson.

A few days later I had bought a flight ticket for London and a show ticket for Richard warming up for his buddy Damien Jurado in Camden Town. (Richard produced both Damien's last album and his coming album.) The show was kind of a dissapointment though. Richard seemed a bit withdrawn and played the piano with his back against the audience. Damien appeared extremely exhausted. Anyway, next tuesday both me and Elvira will see Damien perform at Södra Teatern in Stockholm, then we'll probably find out if at least Damien just had a bad day at work in London. I hope so.
